Why wasn't Totali #1 for websites?

We're #1 (or at least the first page in most countries) for "Totali" on Google, this was always by design. The truth is, getting Google to recognise brand names is pretty easy, we know there is only one Nike, and Adidas, so it's pretty easy (this is where traditional marketing methods help a lot, brand recognition doesn't usually make sales... unless you're Apple)! Enough, lets cut to the chase. Totali didn't rank well on Google for selected keywords, if you're mad enough you may have found us on page 30, but who cares by then, most people want to get to page one, if not position one. Most Internet users use the first 1-3 pages of results to select a provider, so you're wanting to be 1 of 30 potential suppliers.

Why keyword selection is important

This should be obvious but isn't! It's Marketing 101, you need to identify your target market, and what they are looking for. A few examples are:

See, the thing we realised was people generally are looking for something specific, it's just that you don't know what they may be looking for, and that's where we come in. Google has a number of great tools that help us measure what people are searching for, and most people are looking for specific services (or products), in geographic areas (ever noticed how the yellow pages book only has your area in it?).

Poor sales copy is scaring the hell out of your customers!

Most websites are a duplicate of your gloss brochure, but websites are so much more powerful, but only if you use it right. We figure, if you've managed to get a customer to arrive at your website, you need to get hold of them. The old way of doing it was to advertise in the yellow pages, a customer would call you - you get their name, number, and what they called about. With the web, you're luck to know where in the country they are (most tracking systems say your customer is from a major centre, not 30 miles from the nearest gas station!). You need to get your customers to call, or email you, that way you're collecting the same details, but first you have to give them something - give your customers a reason to call you. We've found the traffic on our website leads to about 0.01% contact rate, there are a number of reasons for this, the first being we can only assume if we're not what the customer is looking for.
